Yummy yook-kal

Korean food can be amazing...especially with such a combo

If you are into spicy food this is a great combo not to miss. This is one of our favorite places to eat this type of delicious Korean food.

Meet the yook-Kal (육칼)...

yea yea yea...i know...some people say yuk...but I am writing yook...to stress on the long ouuu sound

Yook-Kal is 2 dishes and served as one dish for your pallet to enjoy and to mix together...

1 --- Yook-ggae Jang....spicy korean soup with beef and veggies

2 --- Kal-gook-su....which are fat yummy noodles

Basically you take the noodles from one bowl and put them into the other bowl and enjoy. Don't forget to enjoy the side dishes too that come with the meal...it is a good yummy time.

This is one of the best places to eat this Korean Dish...

Directions:

A -- I don't know where you will be coming from...but you can make your own way to Samgakgi station (line 6 and 4) in Yongsan-gu.....it is quite easy to get there from the Han River...big straight road from the river to this spot.

B -- Go straight from exit 8 until you reach the elevator (*** I think it is safer this way instead of riding your bike in the traffic over the bridge...but it is up to you..AND then you have to go the lights...and cross the street and double back...in heavy traffic...that is not fun at all***)

C -- Cross the bridge and it is on your left as soon as you get out of the elevator

this is what the outside of the restaurant looks like

Flats happen....

Always be ready with an extra bike tube and a patch kit....

That is right...flats happen no matter how well prepared or well you think you are riding. Don't piss off your friends by not having an extra bike tube and a patch kit. Don't depend on your friends to have extra gear for you. We always ride with an extra tube and a patch kit....again....tube and patch kit.

Why do you need both?...good Combo because....

1 --  an extra tube is quicker to change tire...your friends have to wait less...and also depending on weather, you might want to be quick about fixing the flat

2 -- You might get more than one flat...or your patches fail

3 -- A friend might have been stupid and not brought an extra tube or patch kit...so you can help them out

Why do flats happen?

That is a question we could talk in long detail about...but to keep it simple

1. improper tire pressure

2. hitting something hard

3. rolling over something sharp

4. etc

We will have some more posts on how to change tires...types of lingo for tire flats...and which patches are better etc.

often nice people...

All types of people are all around, but most of time, if you are nice and respectful, people will return that to you and great times will be had!

Mike, from Zero Cycles, and I went on a little moutain bike adventure to enjoy the little bit of snow sound crunching under our tires. It ended up being a nice clear day and it was awesome!

When we ride, we are always nice to hikers and respectful...we need to share and we can all continue to have a safe and fun day.

1.I have a jingle bell on my bike to let others hear me...when I pass I say excuse me in korean and I also let them know how many riders are behind me.

2. Sometimes you might need to just accept it...stop and let the hikers pass on by first...no sense getting anyone hurt

3. always have a smile and say thank you...and/or have a great day/hike

That keeps everyone happy and safe

On this particular day, we were pretty lucky. We met so many groups of nice Korean people who invited us for some beverages and food (knowing a little korean can go a long way in these situations),

What a great day and I am always grateful to meet awesome fun people....

and yes...always drink responsibly and never ride intoxicated! You are an adult...know your limits!

Share with us your amazing moments meeting nice people while out on the trail..and always ride safe!

New Tire Day!

It is new Tire day and who doesn't like a fresh set of rubber for your sweet ride....

Got some new tires for to put on my Trek 520 disc touring bike.  My old tires were the stock tires that came with the bike and I put well over 5,000 km on them. And to my surprise, I only got 2 flats...and both of them were because of a screw or a nail. So I have been very lucky in that department.. but tire choice makes a big difference...So how to choose a tire..that is the question.

27579320_954571594690858_5920606026624663552_n.jpg

but tire choice makes a big difference...So how to choose a tire..that is the question.

I was originally riding some 700c...32 width tires, but I bought some  Schwalbe Durano Plus (28 width) for a few reasons.

1. They were on sale

2. Schwalbe makes some awesome tires with reflective sidewalls (will look great in night pics)

3. The 28 width will be a bit faster and lighter than the marathon plus and they will still last a very very long time. (but if I was doing a continuous long ass world tour, I would 100% get the marathon plus for sure)

So what does tire width mean....

Well here are a few guidelines to help you along.

The thinner = more speed ( yes...tire tread pattern and weight of tire will also have an impact on speed..but lets keep it simple).

AND

The wider the tire, the more load it can handle and it will be more comfortable.

thinner = faster....wider = more comfort

thinner = faster....wider = more comfort

Hope this short introduction to tire width is helpful and comment below what else you'd like to learn.

Winter...tires...round and round

Tires and winter

Be careful for ice patches while cycling. Some tips
- reduce air pressure
- use cx tires or other
- spikey tires when more extreme
- always use good judgement and ride safe .

Little mounds or rocks....

Called "소원탑" so-one-top, are stone mounds made by hikers to grant a wish or positive energy

These so-one-top are literally located almost at the top! These little mounds of rocks are usually made by hikers who carry a rock from the bottom and place them in a pile and say a wish or something positive for good feelings etc. They do look cool.
